About Us
The Opeoluwa Sotonwa Foundation was birthed by our founder Chief Dr. Opeoluwa Sotonwa, who became deaf at sixteen and had to withdraw from school.
He had first-hand experiences of discrimination against people with disabilities and could relate to how students with disability struggle to achieve their educational aspirations. These experiences shaped his life’s passion for public services and using his God-given talents to fight for the less privileged.
The Opeoluwa Sotonwa Foundation was founded upon the principle that an educated deaf society is fundamental to the success of a community. The Foundation is committed to policy and systems change that will increase education access and affordability to deaf students.
To build this model community, The Opeoluwa Sotonwa Foundation will:
-
Promote and provide financial support for the education of deaf students.
-
Ensure that students have the necessary information to make sound financial decisions.
-
Conduct free public retreats at which students and their family members can learn more about financial aid and become familiar with basic principles of literacy and opportunity for deaf students.
-
Lead a collaborative network of community and educational partners aligned to support student preparation, transition, and persistence to degree completion.
-
To those who share its vision, the Opeoluwa Sotonwa Foundation offers opportunities to participate in its realization through financial and in-kind support and volunteerism. The Opeoluwa Sotonwa Foundation provides a variety of philanthropic options to donors who choose to support its educational pursuits. These include donations of cash, gifts, planned giving through trusts, and bequests.
